Journey Into

Darkness

APOCALYPSE NOW meets THE EXORCIST

Journey into darkness

Eli Jackson is a handsome, enigmatic journalist and writer in his early forties. Like Detroit, the city he lives in, he has seen better days.
He could have left, but he stayed on to witness and record the city’s slow decay.
Eli is behind on his rent and has been given an eviction notice. The newspapers he used to work for have all gone out of business, and Eli has taken to the bottle.

His old agent and ex-lover calls him with an offer he can’t refuse: thirty-five thousand dollars and all expenses paid to travel to a remote and dangerous area of Columbia to interview Alfred Reynolds, a famous and reclusive artist, who has not been seen for thirty years, let alone, interviewed.

To get to Alfred Reynolds, Eli must fly down to Columbia and take an arduous river journey through remote and dangerous territory. He must deal with a violent drug cartel, right-wing death squads, disease, bad food, indigenous shaman, FARC Marxist guerillas, and defensive, violent natives.

Eli is assigned a boat and a guide. He must not only deal with real and ever-present dangers, but also his own fears. Along the journey, he meets Barry the Hippie, a schizophrenic American man marooned in the jungle.

He meets a Shaman who attends to his eye infection and becomes his spiritual guide.

Unbeknownst to Eli, a guardian demon, who has protected him since birth, efficiently eliminates those who would stand in his way.

After surviving a kidnapping, Eli and his guide reach the Hacienda…

…To be greeted by a giant with a child’s voice:Alfred’s manservant, Javier

Alfred Reynolds, whose work is famous all over the world, has not left the hacienda for thirty years.

Alfred, a seventy-five year old artist, is married to an astonishingly beautiful young woman.

Alfred is, in fact, two-hundred and twenty years old; his wife, Lilith, is immortal.
She is succubus, and like all parasites, she lives to the detriment of her host.

Lilith feeds on love and desire, and drains her young lovers of their life force. But even a demon can fall in love.
When she met the English painter, John Turner, she didn’t dispatch him.

Instead, she siphoned off some of the life force she collects to keep him as a companion.
But John has tried to escape many times.

She keeps him decrepit in order to keep him under her control.

Alfred (John Turner) has been waiting for Eli’s arrival. Fifty years earlier, he had managed to escape, and with the aid of peyote had seen Eli in a vision.

Eli believes that Alfred is demented, but as the days pass, he begins to believe his story. Especially after his first nocturnal encounter with Lilith and her maid, Alma.

He makes love to them in the river and wakes up in his bedroom, covered in blood and much older.

Alfred shares a plan, telling Eli that he must fight; he must find the gold chalice, and pour its contents onto the ground. Alfred has conveyed his instructions through a series of paintings, including a ten-year old painting of Eli wrestling a female demon.

When Eli discovers the dead body of his river guide, and the boat, he knows he is in danger, and that Alfred has told him the truth about Lilith.

Alfred has longed for death; everyone he has ever loved is already dead. He is consumed with bitterness towards the demon he calls his wife.

Alfred has built a garrote especially for this occasion.
“You must turn garrote and keep turning, though my body will fight. Do not waver; do not stop.Whatever I say or do, continue turning until I am dead. When they find my body, all hell will break lose. That will be your chance to escape. Get to your boat and get as far away as you can.”

Eli flees and makes it safely to the village, though Lilith is close behind. The Shaman makes a protective circle around the village and has Eli take Ayahuasca; Eli must deal with his own fears and regret. To live, he must be willing to die.

Eli travels through the veil, to the altar in the woods. But there, Lilith is waiting for him. She wants him to be her new consort. She tells Eli that she chose him before he was born. She offers him eternal life, strength, ecstasy, and the power to help the weak fight the strong.

Though tempted, Eli refuses her offer and reaches for the chalice. Lilith turns into her demonic form.
Eli wrestles with the demon as Lilith bites and tears at his soft, human flesh.

He manages to tip over the chalice and the skies go black.
Lilith howls as her flesh corrupts and returns to the earth.
